Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy + Psychiatry
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a form of talk therapy that helps you gain insight into your unconscious thoughts and your emotions.
We may explore past experiences and early life relationships to understand current behaviors and patterns.
Studies show that psychotherapy enhances the effects of psychiatric medications when they are used simultaneously.
Our goal is to have you understand and change your usual behavioral patterns to improve mental health and well-being.
How to Get Started
-
Start with an exploratory phone call expressing your goals for psychotherapy and psychiatry treatment. In this conversation we can determine if this practice is the right match.
-
We make an appointment. In preparation for the online paperwork, gather the names of your prior psychotherapists, physicians, medications, hospitalizations and any other information you feel you would want us to know.
-
Thoroughly complete the initial paperwork. I read everything that is written very carefully before your first appointment.
-
Meet for 3 initial consultation sessions. The first session is open ended. The second session is a detailed inquiry on your symptoms and history. The third session is preliminary diagnostic impression and plan. Medications are not prescribed at these visits.
-
If we both choose to move forward together, the plan is to participate in psychotherapy at this practice, the initial frequency may vary from weekly up to two or three times a week depending on the situation.
